One Dimensional Motion

The Purpose

The purpose of the "One Dimensional Motion" experiment was to determaine the constant gravity acting on objects.  To find this we create experiments and used the equation of motion to determine our estimations.  Since we already know what the force of gravity is we were able to find the accuracy of our experiments and could change them to make them more accurate.

Goal

The goal of these experiments was to not only find the constant gravity acting on a object, it was also to get a basic idea of how to set up an improve apon experiments that we create.

Thoughts

To begin this experiment we had to find the best way to set up are data collection.  We knew we had to be very precise on time and distance travled.  This being said we decided to use a slow motion camera and a normal stop watch.  We found that the frames in the video were not accurate enough.  We decided that the best idea was to repeat the experiment several times and find the average from those data points.

Outcome

Through this we found that out first attempt was in the ball park, but still not very close.(2.3 was out estimate 9.8 is the actual)  Once we realized out materials were not accurate enough we realized that we needed to find the average of all the data we collected.  Once we did this we had a much closer approximation.  This being said if we had continued with more data points we would have gotten closer and closer.  This will be very important to know and use through the rest of the semester in this class.
