Career Day 2015
Shadowing a Pilot
This career day I decided to shadow my dad as an airline pilot. He flew in the navy for 10 years and then became a pilot for United. He had a 2 two day trips to new York in a row so I shadowed him on the way there and the way back. I found that the trip he just happened to be on gave him enough time to come to New York and see a show and dinner and then fly back the next morning, but I know many times he gets trips where he just gets to his destination takes a nap and heads home. Over all I found this to be a job that could be very fun and exciting, but also very difficult. In the future I would like to also join the navy after college and then decide from there what I want to do as a career if that means following what I majored in or joining a commercial airline like he did. I found it to be an exciting job and one that would take me to amazing places. It would be a job that you’re taking risks every time you go in(especially in the navy) and that's what I’m looking for in a job. Theres not much education needed it can mostly be taught, but it helps to have prior flying experience.
Junior Internship:
I have a few career paths that I would like to go into in the future. Two of which are either navy or biology/science field. I think my dream internship would be one in a science lab. This would allow me to see if this is something I actually want to pursue if my other career options don’t workout. I also have two contact in these field one of which would be at the UCSD lab and the other a large lab in Denmark.
