Learning about Cycles:

Monsoons

For this project every group was given a different cycle.  We were then told to research our cycle, make a poster and present to the rest of our class.
My partner and I were given Monsoon cycles here is some of the research we found:

What is a Monsoon?

A monsoon is an season change of the strongest winds in a region.  In the tropics monsoons cause both wet and dry seasons.

Where do Monsoons occur?

South, southeast Asia ,India, southwest U.S., North America, East Africa.

Most associated with Indian ocean.

Why do monsoons occur?

The winds of a monsoon come annually, but the duration, rain intensity and time it occurs is not predictable.

How do they affect the southwest U.S.?
They normally increase the moisture in the atmosphere which then increases the thunderstorm development.

Where does wind flow from and where does wind flow to in a monsoon?

The wind always flows from colder regions to warmer ones during monsoons. The climate in India and southwest Asia depending on whether it is a winter or summer monsoon.

What are the economic effects of the monsoon?

Many of the areas where the monsoons occur do not have irrigation systems, nearby lakes, rivers or snowmelt areas.  So these areas build aqueducts that fill with rain during the monsoon season and produces  enough water to water the plans until the next monsoon.
